Bart's Bash

Postby Dreadnought » September 13th, 2014, 9:44 am

We are taking part in Bart's Bash on Sunday 21st September. This is set to be the largest sailing race ever.

To take part you need to sign up here: http://bartsbash.co.uk/

You can race in any craft including the club Picos.

If we get 25 entries then we will help put the event in the Guinness Book of Records.

We have one so far http://bartsbash.co.uk/node/6881/entries

We need 26 now then.

Please can people sign up as "Sprint 15" rather than the other variants of the name available.

All the club boats are taken but Hazel McGovern has very kindly said we can take their Pico out for Bart's Bash. So if any (vaguely) competent sailor wants to take a Pico please let me know ASAP.

Very many thanks to all who turned up to sail, officiate and help today. To get that many boats on the water at a small club is a fantastic effort as is getting the race run and results recorded so efficiently.

Congratulations to Sean McKenna for winning the race so convincingly, and also to Henry Giles for beating all the other dinghies on a course and in conditions that definitely didn't suit the smaller boats.

The Bart's Bash web site is obviously having all sorts of problems collating all the information to give a result but I have posted our results using PY on this site at http://www.shanklinsailingclub.com/race ... s-Bash.php . The Bart's Bash results will use their own as yet unpublished handicap so these could change but this shouldn't effect the top results.

It was good to see some boats from Yaverland. I hope we can encourage them across a bit more next season.

Thank you Liam for organising and for all your effort to get such a fantastic turnout. Thank you also to everyone else on the support side, Liz, Mary, Sue, rescue boats et al.

In particular, what a great camaraderie and determination by everyone that got on the water in conditions they were not necessary comfortable in, even if was just to go out, start and then retire. Quite exceptional!

Erling is going to be handing out some bollockings for the appalling starting on Sunday.

Assume the brace position.

Ian completely did me there. He was ruthless and I wasn't ready at all for it.

Watch out Ian. I have my eye on you!

To be fair, your boat did have "sitting duck" written all over it.

The results are on the Bart's Bash web site:

http://www.bartsbash.co.uk/results/club/6881

Paul Hales is in twice. Unluckily for him the one where he wins the race is incorrect. Ian Bolton also appears twice,

The secretive "Bart Number" looks very similar to Portsmouth Yardstick.
