I broke my Connecting bar when lifting the rudders on Sunday ( corrosion around the Tiller UJ mount Fixing)

Price from Windsport Sport £80 .63 plus £21.95 delivery to mainland plus extra to the IOW

Solution: Buy 1.5 metre length of 25mm anodised aluminium tube ( same wall thickness) from Spinnaker in Bembridge £16.50

Revit existing tiller UJ mount to centre of connector bar

Buy 2 0ff Plastic Connector ends from Dart Parts with delivery £16.15 (originals were worn)

Before riveting new connector ends, adjust connector ends until rudder blades are parallel.

Total cost £33 including rivets.

Note: Rivets of connector ends and UJ mount must be in line

Nice solution. A good look at corrosion is well worth doing as failures are really not a great thing.

I recently found a progressive crack in one of the tillers. I drilled just past the crack at each end to stop the progression and have riveted a plate on that side for extra strength. Quick, simple and I hope it will be a long term solution.
