Shanklin Sailing Club

Hi all a very slow race tonight. The old guy managed another win, he will now be intolerable, two wins on the trot. Poor Alan who is traveling with him to Marconi this weekend.

Good luck to Liam, Erling and Paul who will be representing the Club at Marconi.

Yvonne is trying to find out who has got currant First Aid certificates please reply to her post if you have a currant one, or are interested in doing a first aid course.

Green fingered Mary has been at it again, the garden is looking great. Kim has also been slaughtering the weeds around the Club.

With the age of the members increasing by the minute Kim is looking into how we can possibly acquire a Defibrillator for the Club. Kim, Richard and Brandon have done the defibrillator training.
If a Defibrillator is needed there is one at the Salix Cafe just along the front. Just don't ask me to run and get it, I would probably have to use it before getting back to the Club.

PUSH THE BOAT OUT Saturday May 13th help is needed people on the beach, boats on the beach and help in the Club.

I will now end with this thought It will be quiet on the water this weekend.

Sue managed the start hut with military precision well done you, whilst Mary kept the troops fed with Pasties and Beacon Butties.
I am sure Mary would be grateful for any help in the kitchen, as would Sue. They do a cracking job.

Safety cover is still an issue, and I am sure that it always will be. We might have to go down Gurnards route where everyone has to do a duty in some form or other.

During the second world war the Queen Mary was Zig Zagging her way from the U.S.A carrying thousands of troops, when just off Ireland she managed to cut her escort Destroyer in half damaging her bow. So that they could get her back on the Atlantic run quickly they filled her Bow with concrete.
I wonder if that would work at the Shanklin

Crikey what a fleet out on Sunday and no serious incidents, except Keith hitting W, mounting it and jumping up and down on the trampoline to try to free it.
Liam was giving kindly giving others a chance whilst Paul led the way. The Pig farmer was pleased with his new con bar, 2nd in the first race.
Sue had a bit of a challenge in the second race keeping time with 20 odd boats on the water but coped well, whilst Mary kept the troops fed.

Thought for the day: If you rotate 360 degrees whilst mounting a buoy, does that count as doing your 360 degree turn for hitting it?

Well what can you say, after a false start due to a technical hitch Sue got the racing underway well done. Yvonne won both races, a great result.
Me and Ervin whats his name sat in the Club eating cheese pasties cheering Yvonne on, while Mary started to get the food underway, only to be interrupted by Alan turning up on the beach.
Chris Murphy nearly didn't get his boat in the boat park.

A bit blustery last night, well done Liam, and the old guys (Erling and Keith) closely behind.

It would now appear that we have got the same amount of entries for the Sport Nationals as N.D.Y.C. Well done.

I am not going to doing the Sport Nationals (even though I have just acquired a Class Legal Jib) so I will be able to help in other ways.

As the Club grows in strength I feel it becomes more important to have better safety cover, more people to help with starting, and lastly (I am sure some don’t agree) people to help with catering and the social side of the Club.

Rule 2 Club Rules
2. Objects, - The primary object of The Club is to encourage boat sailing racing and good sportsmanship. The secondary object of The Club is to provide social and other facilities for members as from time to time be determined.

I am going to suggest at the next A.G.M that we adopt the Gurnard approach, when applying for membership or re-membership that members have to agree to do a number of duties throughout the year. The committee will set the Rota.

None of us are paid for or services, we do it for the love and glory.

I shall help on a Sunday and Thursday with Starting, Safety and Catering which ever is needed until a better solution is arrived at.
