Sailing March 22nd 2015

Postby Dreadnought » March 21st, 2015, 8:29 am

10 am. Pursuit Race. For standard mode Sprint 15 catamarans. Jibs can be used but only if you have a crew.

Please make a note of your start times http://www.shanklinsailingclub.com/cont ... _times.php

The wind is forecast to be onshore so if there is a lot of surf, the start will be from the start line rather than the beach.

11am (after first race): Preston Points for standard mode Sprint 15 catamarans.

And

Also 11am: Odds and Ends race for boats with a PY more than 1000. The club Picos may be borrowed by family members.

The Pusuit Race

If you haven't taken part in this race before then you are probably on a 6 minute start.

There will be a ten minute signal on the horn and the far left light will come on, along with the flashing orange light.

Set your watch to count down from there and start at your allotted time.

If the start is from the beach, you need to be stood by your boat, ready to jump on and go when your time starts. You must have your feet on the ground before the start. It will depend on the course set whether you have to start through the line but you must go through the finish line each lap.

If it is very wavy on the beach then we will start from the normal start between the buoys.

If people are overtaking you then it is probably because they are sailing better than you. Watch what angle overtaking boats are pointing, where the helmsmen are sat on the boat and where they have their traveller and main sheet set.

No pensioners in the top 4 today.

Well done to Sean and Mark for showing us how to sail.

Seems like there are some big winning margins this year. None more so than Erling's today.

Well done Erling. A tactical masterclass!
