On Sunday the 8th and 15th we are holding a couple of lessons for the new members and for anybody else that wants to try to learn a bit more or have a practice before the racing season starts.
There is no charge for paid up members.
On the curriculum are:
Where the start line is The start sequence and lights How to set up for a start Basic rules Sailing faster Boat set up
The aim is to have the boats rigged up and for sailors to be in sailing clothes for 10am.

Can everybody taking part have a watch with a 5 minute countdown, preferably wearable over their drysuit.

Good to see so many people at the lesson and practice today. I hope everybody got something out of it and weren't too put off by the windy conditions.
Use the traveller to spill the power when going to windward. In a force 4/ 5 you should have your traveller out far enough so that you can control the boat while leaning out hard.
If your traveller is fully in then you will be spilling power with the main - in which case the sail will not be in an efficient shape.
If the traveller is fully out then you then you will struggle to get to windward. You should be leaning out and driving the boat on.
Also pull the main and traveller in before you tack - regardless of how windy it is. In yesterday's conditions you need to move across the boat quickly.

Take a look at how Simon is going to windward.
Treveller nearly half way out, main fully in, sat just behind the shroud leaning out.

The chances of getting out on the water on Sunday don't look good.
However please come along to the club house for 10am. We will finish going over the important rules and then get the boats on the beach and make sure they are tuned up for racing.
We can then go over some hints for how to get the boats going as fast as possible.
