Bang and Swap Helmsman Race

Postby Dreadnought » July 25th, 2017, 8:00 pm

Thursday evening's race is for two people on Sprint 15 catamarans. It will be a standard race except about half way into the race there will be a general recall sounded and all the lights will come on, the class flag (F - red diamond) will also be displayed. At this point the helm and crew must swap over.

The helmsman must do the steering. The crew may operate the main sheet/traveller if preferred.

Please come along even if you haven't organised a partner or boat.

The lower ranked person in the Baker Challenge handicaps will count as the helmsman for the purposes of the results and the Turnabout Cup.

Change of plan due to forecast of strong winds.

The race will still be for two up catamarans but instead of swapping crew half way, we will change direction and head back where we came from like we used to in the Bang and Go Back.

So if the course was 1 3 4 Start (all to port) and the horn and lights came on between 4 and start, you would turn round and go to 4 then 3, 1 start and so on, all marks to starboard.

There are points awarded for both stages of the race and collated as a mini series.

The results will go to the helmsman but the cup will go to the crew.
